Emma earned a Bachelor of science in Nursing from Moi University and Master of public health from University of Nairobi, school of Public Health, Kenya. After more than ten years of her nursing career in Kenya, Emma moved to Nova Scotia where she continued with her nursing career in nursing. She has spent her career working in nursing education, leadership roles, population health and project management. She has diverse experience in maternal child and women’s health, geriatrics, medical-surgical and community health as well as simulation, mentorship and facilitation.
Emma has worked with the Nova Scotia Community College, School of Health & Human Services where her teaching roles included facilitation in the Practical nursing program, Continuing Care Assistant program, skills lab, clinical instruction and program coordination. She is happy to be working with Inspire Global Assessments as an assessor and a subject matter expert in addition to working with Nova Scotia Health Authority in the Inter-professional Learning Institute where she continues to live her passion for simulation in nursing education and dedication to support competency-based education.
Ms Muindi has demonstrated leadership in global health initiatives in girls and women in marginalized areas and continues to advocate for empowerment of that population. She is the founder and currently the chairperson of Sauti ya Dada Kenya, a not-for-profit organization which empowers and advocates for girls and women in sexual and reproductive health. Her expertise to manage and lead projects has been a great impact to the running of the organization and building partnerships with key stakeholders. She has organized fund raising campaigns and worked in collaboration with the Kenyan ministry of health and sanitation, ministry of education and Kenya medical training college to take sexual and reproductive health services to marginalized girls and women in Kitui county.
Her active involvement includes commitment in organizing community initiatives such as Breast cancer awareness and self-examination, creating menstrual hygiene awareness and supply of school-girls with menstrual hygiene kits in Kitui County- Kenya.
Ms. Muindi’s vision is to see all girls and women in marginalized areas and groups having awareness of their sexual and reproductive rights and access to equitable and affordable sexual and reproductive health services.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys walking, gardening, travelling, volunteering and spending time with family and friends.
